Through “our fantasy” we travel to different countries of the world to discover musical instruments. How did it end up there? How was it made? How is it played? Can we build and assemble our own instruments with simple materials from everyday life?

The main goals of the Music Workshop are to entertain the children through creative activities, to foster cooperation and play, to build intercultural contact among diverse countries and peoples of the world and, finally, to be acquainted with distinct musical instruments from these cultures.

"Being" in every country, children learn about the history and manufacturing practices of the instruments in order to teach them how to build them themselves. At the end of the workshop, every child takes with him/her the musical instruments he or she have made. Additional goal of the workshop is to inspire the imagination of the children so that they will eventually be able to construct their own instruments with materials found in their surroundings.

The Music Workshop was implemented in the 1st Elementary school of Archangelos (Rhodes) under the guidance of the musicians – educators Magia Papageorgiou and Dafni Karellaki in collaboration with a mixed group of sixteen refugee children and students of the school (eight to twelve years old). It took place in May 2017 for the duration of one week.
