Photography Workshop

The photography workshop is addressed to children between the age of six and fourteen. Its main goal is to artistically approach the historical monuments of the Old Town of Rhodes through photography, observation and game. Through informal education and art, the workshop aims at helping the socialization and integration of the refugee children in the local society.

The workshop began with the presentation of the pictures of the monuments and with the explanation to the refugee and local children about their history and cultural importance. The chosen monuments – which belong to different periods (Knights period, Ottoman period, Italian period, etc.)- are an example of the historical cultural diversity of this island.

It followed a game that consisted in pursuing the monuments through an arranged sightseeing tour of the Medieval Town of Rhodes. The children were challenged to identify the historical monuments and to photograph them while noticing their particularities.

Photos from the Photography Workshop

The photography workshop took place in the Old Town of Rhodes in March 2017 and was attended by a mixed group of twenty-three children (six to fourteen years old). The idea and planning of the workshop derived from the collaboration of the Ani-Mate & Meet the Other team and its implementation was conducted under the supervision of the photographer Artemis Timassouk.

After being artistically edited, the final photographs taken by the children were presented in the photography exhibition within the framework of the Ani-Mate & Meet the Οther program. The exhibition took place in Rhodes during May 2017 in collaboration with the Association for the Protection of the Architectural and Cultural Heritage of Rhodes.
