The Sound and Shadow Theatre Workshop aims at helping the children to develop the ideas of dialogue and inter-cultural exchange. Through arts and non-formal education, it aims as well at bridging the gap between individuals, groups and communities, and at contributing to social solidarity and cohesion.
With the use of various media such as photography, sound capes, natural sounds, real life stories, imaginary narrations, shadow theater and animation, the children let their imagination show what is important in this world. They created the scenario, the script and the sounds, and they where the protagonists of a Sound and Shadow Theatre.
The Sound and Shadow Theatre Workshop took place under the guidance of two artists from the MUS-E team, Milena Bochet and Florence Aigner in collaboration with a mixed group of twenty-three refugee and local children for one week in the 1st Middle School of Rhodes. The outcome of the workshop -with the musical intervention of the soloist of classic guitar Antonis Liopiris- is the creation of the “Welcoming” sound and shadow show, played for students and for the children’s parents in April 2017.
MUS-E is an international multicultural artistic organization based in Belgium. It has been working on the creation of artistic programs of non-formal education for social purposes over the past fifteen years. Its main goal is the social integration of those with limited access to artistic and creative activities. MUS-E organizes and coordinates artistic educational programs in primary schools, in refugee shelters and in shelters for single-mothers, in collaboration with other international, national, and local institutions. It also runs seminars and meetings for artists and educators.
